Beautiful background panel - of course!

Who would have thought that Lu is that good at diving? I know cats can swim and tigers love water, but diving, and leading the big human...

Oh! Lu said once that his species can't use the tentacles except for swimming. But he doesn't use them now...

Short answer: His tentacles are fighters, not swimmers! (Also, I'm glad you noticed!)

Long answer: Tenta-swimming is a lot like walking: most of it is done via autopilot, without having to think about how to move your legs. Lu's tentacles can't autopilot due to a rare condition that he was born with. He could still swim with them, but with great effort. It's much easier to swim with normal limbs for him.

The tradeoff is that he has the ability to use his tentacles without the autopilot constantly fighting for control. He has met only one other Rencho with the same condition, and the other Rencho (who has not appeared in the comic, and probably never will) only had one affected tentacle, the rest being normal.

Interesting info! I thought that Lu would have only more control, and that the other Renchos could use the tentacles in water because they wouldn't need some autopilot to stay upright so they'd have some "free autopiloting/instinctual capacity" or something like that. Interesting that the full conscious control can remove a certain ability of use. :D
Thank you!
