Remember that warning from chapter 20...?

I-I'm not sure I got what's going on here. Apparently the gate-boy "ignited" Ethan's magic - in a bad/violent way. It seems to flow/lash out to the falling terrorist. Then... OK, I have no idea what's on with Ethan, in the left one of the last 3 panels. Ethan looks like he's hurt, but the flow of magic stopped, so... well, no idea.

If you re-read chapter 20, you'll see that this has happened to Ethan before. But back then, a more experienced Dokkabi was around to stop him before he hurt himself (or others). Then she warned him to not do it again because it was dangerous. Now in this scene, Ethan tried to prevent one of the terrorists from falling, like how the Dokkabi lady made the octopuses levitate. Only it backfired terribly -- just like the Dokkabi (as well as Lushaka) warned.

Oh, and the "let's burn" panel... the same scene from chapter 20 may contain something similar to it...!

Thank you very much, looks like I didn't understand most of what's going on.

From memory: Back in chapter 20 someone, I think the Dokkabi woman, said that all red gate visitors have a little bit of Dokkabi magic in them and that Ethan's magic showing up was caused by the Dokkabi lady being nearby and using her magic. And there was the warning. Therefore I thought that Ethan could not activate his magic willfully, at least not without a magic user nearby and that even if he could, it would not be anything big, maybe a little light effect but no lifting.

Me trying to read "between the pages" = Fail, obviously.
Thanks for the explanation!

She also mentioned distress as a potential trigger, in addition to the presence of another Dokkabi. In retrospect, they're lucky his powers didn't go off back when Lushaka killed those guys who almost knifed him/shot him!

Don't be too hard on yourself; I think a lot of this is Webcomic Time. Webcomic creators who work day jobs aren't able to draw as quickly as they'd like to, so a lot of time pass between plot events, and people forget stuff.
