The moment when a puppy and a cat shake hands.

With this chapter, we’ve entered a very important arc, and I need to make sure the scripts for the rest of the arc are solid before I can proceed!

Chapter 11 will begin on August 10th. I’ll be busy scripting, drawing, surviving, etc.ing during the break. No playing Pokemon Go, I promise 8D (Seriously, I don’t even have a smartphone!)

He's a very, very overgrown kid. :)

The different font for Public Space indicates that he's speaking English, right? Where he has difficulty finding the words in Korean, so he spouts it out in his L1 before he can come up with an adequate L2 equivalent. It's a sweet and realistic touch.

Yep! I see bi/multilingual people do this all the time with other bi/multilinguals. It doesn't seem as common when talking to someone who doesn't understand both languages involved, but I guess it's an old habit for Ethan; he's used to Koreans having at least a basic understanding of English.

Wow. Lushaka. That is a beautiful name. I wonder what it means. :3

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I will be here on August 10th, bright eyed and bushy tailed, waiting for this comic to update! :D:D:D

It means "star-tail." There's a lovely story behind that name; I want to do a side story about that some time, if I don't get to show it in the main comic!

It also makes me happy to know that you're eagerly looking forward to seeing the story continue ;_; It means a lot to me!

Ethan's such a nice guy. I really respect his goodwill in spite of the circumstances. Me? I'd be freaking out too much to think about others.

I love how Lukasha's holding his hand (paw?) like he doesn't exactly know what to do with it after Ethan shook it. Is that the first time a human has willingly touched him? Or is it just confusion over a western handshake? :)

Beautiful work as always.

This is... actually a really complex topic XD!!

Well, the entire culture about touching is different in Keol (I could write an essay about this), plus there's the additional layer of complexity with the Rencho culture also being different. Racism is also a thing, although not a big factor in this particular interaction.

LONG story short, touch-greetings are nonexistent in Keol culture, but extended "touching" such as walking around while holding hands/ arms wrapped around each other's shoulders is absolutely normal among friends. So when Ethan offered his hand, "what, is he gonna hold my hand and walk me to... ??? where? And WHY? We JUST MET!" would've been a very natural thing to wonder.

While Lushaka is aware that handshakes are a thing among some Visitors, he thinks of greetings as something you perform when you'd just run into each other -- not something you do in mid-conversation.

I realize this was pages back, but is/was the number of braids thing a real custom in Korea, or is it just a Keol thing?

It's a Keol thing, though it shares some similarities with how things were in Korea, too. In RL Korea, unmarried people wore their hair in a single braid; once married, it was a top knot for men, and a back bun for women. That much is the same. No multiple braids, though.

Of course, this varied from era to era. I think the single braid thing was relatively recent (within the past 500-600 years?) throughout the entire history of Korea.

Gotcha! Very interesting. Reminds me of Turkmen women wearing their hair in two braids before getting married and one after, and a few other places too. (I think in some parts of Europe, back in the day, married women wore their hair up...) But yeah, I'm rambling. Keep up the good work!

Culture is such a fascinating topic!I like to think of culture as a set of "how this society has learned to survive through generations." So even the weirdest cultural rules exist to help the society sustain itself -- just not necessarily in an efficient way. If it goes beyond inefficient and becomes actually harmful to the survival of the culture itself, then it gets pruned one way or another.
