This is the second strip being posted today. If you haven't seen the previous one, go take a look at it; it's got a wee little Elyath baby. :)

Thanks! I was worried the worldbuilding bits might've overstayed their welcome (plot resuming in 3... 2...). At the same time, all of this is necessary for the reader to not go "but that doesn't make sense; what about ___?" when the plot resumes, so hopefully it all makes sense and is interesting to read.

It's great to elicit questions in the reader's mind by creating mystery -- but not by creating mystification. :B;; Trying to avoid the latter.

"How dare you make such vile insinuations about Danbi's sister!" Whoa, whoa, calm down, grandma... XD;; (Poor Ethan didn't mean no harm!)

Okay, assuming those poisonous manshin spores were of the like that has currently poisoned Danbi, Ethan seems to be completely immune to the poison (judging by the way he touched it and nudged it away from Danbi). Either that or he's going to get a delayed reaction, lol, but I highly doubt it. So this is possibly Ethan's 'hidden skill'! :D Poison immunity from evil(?) Elyeo spores!

And possibly more than that... ;)

Or it's only toxic when inhaled! :0

Or Ethan has a bad case of a swollen/rash-covered finger waiting for him in the morning.

Danbi seems to be able to recover despite the toxicity, so maybe it's not fatal upon inhalation but fatal over time? Is that right? >_>?

Or is Danbi the special one, and I shouldn't keep harping on about Ethan XDDD

Entirely one-sided "arguments" like this are fairly normal in their culture! When you're older than the other person by a generation or more, you have the right (and responsibility to some degree) to rebuke them. By their standards, Ethan is actually being very rude by maintaining an eye contact, which says "but you're wrong because ___!" rather than "yes, I'm paying attention."

Isn't Master a human? And aren't humans in a less stable position in this world than the Eleyo? If so, does that make Master's statement internalized racism/speciesism?

Oh, which statement? Humans are the dominant population in this world, despite their inferior plant control abilities.

He seemed offended by the idea that Hana's father was human, but it takes on a different meaning if humans are indeed dominant here like they are on our crapsack tirefire of a real world.

The implication of a human father is that Danbi's sister must have been directly impregnated by a human, which is all sorts of inappropriate (considering her age at the time, for one thing). Of course, Ethan didn't mean it that way, but yeah...

God, Ethan! You come up on their land, befriend Danbi, get in people's way, and then insult his sis...Oh. He's waking up. ^_^ :P :3

He's actually committing a faux pas here that Master isn't pointing out: he's maintaining eye contact. In Keol, you're not supposed to do that when your senior is not pleased with you. Eye contact in that context is interpreted not as "I'm paying attention," but as "you're wrong."

Hmm, so if the child is female, it's always an Elyeo, but if it's male, it's human. Or half-human, I guess. But since fetuses start out as female in the womb, shouldn't that mean every child they have turns out female? Or is it some kind of recessive gene where the males are technically Elyeo but don't exhibit the features of that species, including their external biological sex? Does that mean female half-human children born to Elyeo are simply an example of the recessive gene being active? Or maybe it's the other way around and Elyeo genes are dominant and the males are the rare ones who don't have the expected traits. I dunno, I'm not actually that knowledgeable about how genetics work.
Odds are I'm really overthinking this. It is a fantasy comic, after all.

I think it's more bizarre that two species that evolved in completely different worlds are compatible at all. Extra-bizarre when you consider that Renchos are incompatible with either species.

In any case, it's not just a single recessive/dominant gene. There are many different genes involved, and no, I don't know exactly how this all works. 8D
